I went to Joann’s today and they have the cricut cartridges buy one get one free.  They have newer cricut cartridges like Hannah Montana and Sponge Bob Square Pants available.  I also saw Tinkerbell, Hello Kitty and Cars as well.  They end up being 44.50 a piece.  Michaels has there cartridges on sale as well.  $44.99.  Joann’s will price match the cartridge price from Michaels so if you only want to buy one cricut cartridge take your Michael’s sale ad with you and they will honor it.  I have done that a few times.

Today I had a little bit of time to make something using my new Hannah Montana cricut cartridge.  I bought the Rock Star Stack from Joann’s when they had the DCWV paper on sale along time ago.  I bought the pad at Hobby Lobby.  They had a bunch of paper pad stacks for .99 each so I got a few different ones.  The pad is 4 inches by 6 1/4.  I created a rectangle in Design Studio using the Plantin Schoolbooks cartridge. I made it 4 1/2 by 7 1/2.  I cut 2 pieces of chipboard and 4 pieces of the DCWV stack with the rectangle.  I made the outside front and back the same color and the inside front and back the same color.  I ran the DCWV through the Xyron and attached it to the chipboard.  I cut the Rock and Star out of black cardstock from the paper company.  I ran them both through my xyron machine backwards and then sprinkled Martha Stewart Glitter on them.  The star is 2 pieces, I only put glitter on the top layer and then glued it to the base.  I used Zig 2 way glue pen to attach the rock and then foam mounted the star.  I attatched the pad using my Xyron Cheetah 2 glue runner.  Then used my Bind It All to put it together.  I think that it is a perfect “just because” gift for my 17 year old niece.

I have been waiting patiently (not!) by the mailbox for my Hannah Montana cricut cartridge to arrive and it has not arrived yet.  I played around with Design Studio this morning and came up with a PARTY word book.  I can’t wait to cut it.

The file is good to go, You probably would want to highlight the middle of the PAR letters and hide the contour on each.  I  included a reminder text file in the zip file.  The rectangle of the book was created with the Plantin School cartridge.  If you don’t have that cartridge, you can change the rectangle out for another rectangle on a different cartridge.  Click on the word videos under tag section on the right for a demonstration on how to do this.

I went to Michael’s first thing Sunday to get the Lyrical Letters cricut cartridge since they have cricut cartridges on sale this week.  I made my first word book with this cartridge and I am soooo frustrated.  I did not think that the font update for Design Studio changed anything but my DS is acting up.  I can not copy and paste a letter and then try and hide the contour.  I changed the order of pages and when I save the cut file and open it again the pages are back the way they were before I saved them.  I had to save the book with a different name, then open and correct the page order and then save it again before the changes stayed.  I made the book using the square from the Plantin School cartridge and when I went to cut the book I would not cut the pages with the letters welded to the square.  I gave up and made the book again with the Storybook cricut cartridge and Lyrical Letters.  It cut fine so I have no idea what the problem was.  I love how it turned out.

I was able to get everything to stay on this cut file except the center of the A page.  You will have to right click on the center of the A and hide the contour in order to cut the page properly.  I tried to cover it with a rectangle and weld it to the page but it would not work no matter what I tried, oddly the rectangle a the bottom of the page worked fine.  If there is anyone that knows the secret or a trick to this please let me know.  I would really appreciate it.

I ordered Hannah Montana and Sponge Bob from www.ohmycrafts.com on Sunday.  I was a little bummed, first I was busy with the kids and by the time I got them down for the night on Sunday and did what I needed to do, I realized I forgot to order the cartridges.  I had meant to do it on Saturday but I kept debating about ordering some other things.  I ran down at 11:45 p.m. to order the cartridge with the 15% discount code and it had already expired.  I found a 10% code on google search so it did not end up so bad.  I got an e-mail today that they are back ordered on Sponge Bob, with any luck though I should have Hannah Montana by the end of the week.  I can’t wait to get it and make something with it.  I have been neglecting my cricut cartridges lately but I plan on dusting them off and putting them to work in the next couple of weeks.  My son is going to be turning one at the end of August and I really need to start the birthday invitations now.

I have exciting news!  The new cartridges are finally added to Design Studio.  I installed the latest font pack here.  You have to log in and download the update.  I did not download the program update.  I will do that later, I just updated the font pack so I can see what they are all about.  It includes the following cartridges.

Oh gosh, I am so excited.  Hannah Montana, Jubilee, Life Is A Beach, Lyrical Letters, Simply Sweet, Sponge Bob, Stamping and Stand and Salute!!!!!

**** I know that some people who use SCAL (Sure Cut’s Alot) are afraid (rightly so, we don’t want to loose SCAL)  that updating the Design Studio software will block SCAL as it has in the past.  The font pack update that I completed did not do anything to block SCAL on my cricut expression.
