Sure Cuts Alot 2 Updated!!!!!

I just downloaded the most recent update to the Sure Cuts A Lot v2 software and have been playing around with it.  It is so cool so I did a little video on it.

You can down load the update here. www.craftedge.com

Glitter Ornaments

You have to watch this Youtube video that shows how to make glitter balls.  I tried it today and LOVE it!

I used Mop & Glo instead of the Future as shown in the video.  It worked perfect.  I cut the names out in white vinyl on my cricut using Sure Cuts A lot.

Here are the pictures.  I got the ornaments at Michaels on sale 50% off.  I got these with a little bit of the pearl glaze on them and they still turned out very pretty.

Creating Word Layers In Inkscape

Here is a video on how to create layered words to cut on your cricut.  I used Inkscape and a font called Old Christmas but you really can use just about any font on your computer.  Some fonts cut better then others on you cricut though.

If you have trouble viewing the video, you can download the mp4 here.

Cutting Vinyl On My Cricut Video

I have had several people ask me about cutting vinyl on the cricut so I thought that I would do a little video tutorial.  I also show how to use transfer tape or contact paper to place your design on the location of your choice.  If you want information on where I purchase my vinyl, please click here to review a previous post.

Screen Printing With My Yudu, Cricut Expression and Vinyl

After I got the kids to bed I was able to try and work with the Yudu.  My first few attempts were washed down the sink.  The first time I did not have the screen wet enough.  The second time it was to wet.  The third time I said however ever it turns out, I am going to print it.

I am almost embarrassed to show you this but I worked hard on this and I can’t believe that it did not turn out.  It is a black t-shirt and hot pink paint.  It was a pre made Yudu design.  The first ink pass was very very faded, the second pass was still faded but some parts became blotched.

It does look horrible.  Like a bleached t-shirt or something.  It was a t-shirt that I made for myself.  It took me about 4 hours or so to get to this point.  I was very frustrated.

I decided to try the vinyl method that I posted about earlier.  I am so in love with this method.  I made a t-shirt for my niece (Bubbles).

I used my Gypsy and created the vinyl design and it took about 2 seconds.  I used a 12×12 piece of black vinyl.  The vinyl cut perfect on my cricut.  I forgot to take a picture of the before, so here is a picture of the after.  I had just finished printing the t-shirt.  This is the vinyl adhered to the inner side of the screen.

I left the vinly on my cricut mat.  I removed the parts that I wanted to be inked from the design.  I then took a large sheet of contact paper and covered the entire vinyl cut.  I had about 1 inch all the way around the design of extra contact paper.  I used a brayer and rolled over the contact paper to help it adhere to the vinyl.  I flipped the entire design over and pealed off the backing of the vinyl.  Once it was pealed off I took it over to my Yudu machine and decided where I wanted it on my screen and adhered it.  I pealed the corner of the contact paper slowly and removed it from the vinyl.  I basically adhered the vinyl to the mesh screen like it was my wall.  I covered the parts of the mesh screen still exposed with tape.  Screen printed the t-shirt.  With one ink pass, this is how it turned out.

The letter are from the Lyrical Letters cricut cartridge and the heart is from the Indie cricut cartridge.  Clean up was a snap.  I washed the screen with warm water.  Pealed off the tape and vinyl.  Wiped it down again and put the screen in the Yudu machine to dry.  From start to finish with the vinyl method it was about 30 minutes.  I love how this shirt turned out.  I have some hot-fix rhinestones that I am going to add to it.  I know that my niece will love it.  I would rather use vinly then the emulsion.  I am not going to give up on emulsion though, we are going to learn how to use the liquid stuff.  I share more info about that on a later post.

****update***

I was able to finally get the emulsion to work.  I wet the screen with a spray bottle.  Applied the emulsion and the used the squeegee to get all the air bubbles out.  **per a wonderful suggestion from someone on the cricut message board** Flip the screen over and wipe the emulsion with a wet sponge to get it totally wet and get the air bubbles out.  It took 2 drying cycles to get totaly dry but it worked perfect.  Thank you “14across” from the cricut message board for your help.

Here is a picture of the shirt that I made for my daughter using emulsion.  I cut the pop star out from the Hannah Montana Cartridge.  I cut in out in black vinyl and it adhered perfectly to the glass and stayed in place to properly burn the into the emulsion.  The guitar was a pre-made stencil that you can purchase for the Yudu.

Imaginisce I-Top Custom Brad Maker Demo and Cricut Cut File Template

I fell in love with the I-top custom brad maker after watching the video from youtube.  I told my husband that I wanted it for Christmas and he said to just order it.  When www.ohmycrafts.com had a 20% off coupon come out I ordered it from them.  I can not tell you how much I love this tool.  I made this video last week but unfortunately I was not able to get it posted to youtube until today.

Ohmycrafts has a bundle pack where you get the I-top tool and large brad carriage, case, 3 different brad sizes and 3 size paper punches.  I ended up not going with that bundle.  I think I paid $7.00 more then the bundle to get the same items in the bundle and the pink i-tool.  I had e-mailed and asked if they could swap the pink I-Top tool for the black in the bundle and they replied nicely, no.  I signed up for there e-mails and they have a new 20% coupon code (BLACK) good for 20% off any order over $20.00.  Expires 11-03-2009.  (I have no affiliation with ohmycrafts.com I am just sharing the savings that I took advantage of.)

**updated** They have there I-top bundles on special right now, the lowest bundle is $29.99 and you can use the 20% off code on top of the sale price.  Click here to see all the imaginisce products on sale at ohmycrafts.  I also received a new 20% off coupon code (NEW20) for 20% off any order over $20.00.  Expires 11-03-09

Here is what I got.  First, the case is so cute!

The tool, packages of brads, the large carriage fit perfect in the case.  It also has extra room to store the brads that I have already made.

The three paper punches make cutting your custom size paper pieces a snap.

An alternative to the paper punches are templates.  You just trace the template and cut.  templates Imaginisce I Top Custom Brad Maker Demo and Cricut Cut File Template

There is also a Cricut Design Studio cut file for the templates that was made using the Accent Essentials cricut cartridge or the George and Basic Shapes cricut cartridge.  The 2 cut files can be downloaded from the blog, Imagine That.  It is an awesome blog with lots of other scrapbooking and cricut information. Click here for the link.

Sorry the picture is a little blurry of the finished brads, I could not get the focus and flash setting just right.  They look so much better in person.

Here is the video.  Sorry if my hands get in the way a bit.  I am left handed and my camera has to be on the right.

Design Studio and Gypsy Update Video

I downloaded the Gypsy update before it was pulled from the web.  It was pulled because a lot of people are having issues cutting with there cricut after the update.  You can still create and cut the files on your Gypsy but if you import a file to cut on your Gypsy it will not cut.  The same happens if I weld and flip an image.  My Gypsy goes through the motion and acts like it is cutting but it is not.  I think that we are soooo close to what we have been asking for.

For those of you who did not get the update before it was pulled.  Here is a video of the Gypsy Sync in action.  We can now change .cut files into .gypsy and and import our .gypsy files into Design Studio and change them if need be to .cut files.  ***The update requires that the cricut be updated***I did the update and used SCAL and had no troubles*** hopefully it stays that way.

One of the other things that I noticed that I hope gets fixed it when you import a wordbook that has multiple pages into your Gypsy.  All pages are on one mat in the Gypsy so it is just a mess.  I asked on the Cricut MB Gyspy Tech Support if we were going to have to save each page into its own file to import into the Gypsy.  I will post the answer when I get it.

You can download the new Design Studio Update here.

Cricut Gypsy Ghost Card Blooper Video

Hi everyone, I was super excited to show you my Gypsy by doing my first Gypsy video.  It was going to be how to make a Halloween card using Paper Doll Dress Up cricut cartridge.  I did the video, created the file on my gypsy.  Hooked up my gypsy and uh ohhh.  All that cut was the eyes of the card.  It turns out that there is an issue with the Gypsy welding when you flip an image.  In order for the card to align properly the black out side of the card must be flipped and of course to have a card it needs to be welded together.  Well, since that did not work out, I just made the file in DS.  I thought that I would post the video of how to make the card as a blooper video since what I show in  the video does not actually work.  It does show the Gypsy and how user friendly it is.  I know the first release has some issues and that is okay with me. I am still loving it.

Here is the video, and just to point out one more time, this currently will not work on the Gypsy.

Dynamic Offset Inkscape Tutorial (Creating Layers)

I thought that I would do a little video tutorial on how to use the dynamic offset option in inkscape to create layers.  I hope you like it.

Box Tutorial (Making A Card Box or Any Size Box SVG)

I received lots of compliments on a box that I posted recently so I decided to make another one and also do a how to video on it.  This box is designed to hold A2 size cards that are 4 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches.  The svg file is included for download.

Download SVG File

Here is the video.  I have been working on it all week.  I think I have actually recorded it 20 times.  It just took a little bit for me to figure out which was the best method to record and upload it.  I initially ended up with over a 600 MB file and that was just to much and it is 16 minutes long and I could not upload it to Youtube with out splitting the file.  I think that I have it all figured out except on my Imac I can not hear the video with out the volume being cranked all the way up.  I think it must be my computer because the volume is fine on my Windows computer.  I was able to get the file small enough so I can host it right on my own site.  This tutorial is meant for people that have general knowledge of Inkscape but should be easy enough to pause the video while you try and work along with it in Inkscape.  This video will give you the basics on how you can create your own custom size box to fit your needs.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

***I was able to fix the audio.  It turns out that it was not me or my computer, it was the microphone that I was using.  I picked up a Logitech USB headset w/microphone on clearance at Target and it works awesome.  Sorry for all the difficulty.
